After updating pam to pam-0.99.8.1-17, I started seeing pam errors
in /var/log/secure. Messages like:
Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM unable to
dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_access.so)
Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM [error: /lib64/libpam.so.0:
version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1' not found (required by
/lib64/security/pam_access.so)]
Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM adding faulty module:
/lib64/security/pam_access.so
and
Feb 20 18:25:00 garion gdm-binary[14848]: pam_unix(gdm:session): session
opened for user rwuest by (uid=0)
Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM unable to
dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_limits.so)
Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM [error: /lib64/libpam.so.0:
version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1' not found (required by
/lib64/security/pam_limits.so)]
Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM adding faulty module:
/lib64/security/pam_limits.so
I could not log in through gdm, although I could at a VT.
So I did an 'rpm -U --force pam-0.99.8.1-10.fc8.x86_64.rpm
pam-devel-0.99.8.1-10.fc8.x86_64.rpm'
I'm not sure if cron is fixed, but I can login through gdm now.
