Modeline no longer seems to set anything. Even if xvidtune fixes a display problem, the found parameters won't hold in xorg.conf. You can look at xorg.0.log in /var/log to see what is being detected. The proprietary drivers do a better job but Fedora is changing faster than the updates to the drivers. Rawhide is off the bleeding edge. Also it seems that one either has a new card that doesn't have drivers yet or an older one that has fallen out of the support window.
