The problem has nothing to do woth DNS not reolve.conf. It is the permissions on
some compnent of the sound system since:
1. The command works if the permission of /dev/dsp as 666
2. It works as root with the permission of /dev/dsp as 660

I would love to know what component has the wrong permissions.

Again thanks all of your, for your efforts to solve the problem, it is working through terminal only. Ans to other querries, (might be helpful for further improvements )
1. My DNS is working properly and I can surf the net
2. I was trying all this, as a usr (not as a root)
3. permission to /dev/dsp is as follows
crw-rw----+ 1 root root    14,   3 2008-02-14 16:57 dsp
4. Through GUI mode still not working

There is nothing in name, unless you are using it as username
