Hi Marc. I think the first thing to do is to disable pulseaudio. It appears to 
be a real pain in the neck for some folks (including myself), with all it's 
"permission denied" messages, and compounds the problem of getting sound 
working in the first place. To disable it do:
yum remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio

This will (should) also remove kde-settings-pulseaudio.

Now you can see if you can get the sound working, without pulseaudio poking 
it's nose in on the act.
