You would use "tune2fs -i 10m <device>" as in"tune2fs -i 10m /dev/sda3". But one thing to keep in mind is that the check will only happen when the system reboots, so if you reboot on the 9th month, and the 11th month, it will run the check on the 11th month. Setting the check frequency this way does not override the other settings, such as the number of mounts, or if hte check flag gets set in other ways.
Errors can normally be fixed by e2fsck. But you do not want to try to fix a mounted file system.
