I did a fair bit of boot runlevel 2, and installing those {not acutally} missing rpms, or the rpms providing certain sonames. But some where along the track thunderbird no longer started.
rpm -V thunderbird showed about ten files with bad md5sum, including thunderbird-bin and libxpcom_core.so. This was yum removed, and install again. And now seems to operate OK.
Gonna rpm -Va and see what other problems are left over - but still welcome any hints if you have them {since I still get problems with yum} ?
