The laptop is able to boot off an external USB drive. In the BIOS options I turned on the feature to boot from a USB drive if one is detected. I plugged in the USB drive, carefully installed Fedora 8 to that drive only, and all is well. It is fun showing it off to others too. When I want to boot Windows XP, I don't plug in the USB drive. When I want to boot Fedora 8, I plug the drive in and turn on the computer. Presto!
