That did it! It still gives an error but it connected straight away!
Thanks heaps :-) It would have taken we a long time before I would have figured that out. No enable WEP again.

I have a iwl3945 equipped laptop and have had varying degrees of
success, dpending on which F-8 kernel I use. The one that has worked
best for me is 2.6.23.12-101.fc8 which I pulled from koji here:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=30116
If you want to try that, download the relevant rpm, and install it
using the command
yum --nogpgcheck localinstall kernel-2.6.23.12-101.fc8.x86_64.rpm
replacing x86_64 with i686 if your laptop is not 64 bit.
