Actually, I solved the problem easily enough - I used fdisk to change the type of the partition - /dev/sda4 - holding the LVM partitions to "Linux LVM". However, KDE-4 Fedora proved very unstable. The cursor hung almost at once - I mean I could not move it with the mouse - on my ThinkPad T43.
