The errors you mention at the end would suggest that if you browse to "/dev/sda8"/boot you would not find kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.12-52.fc7. To find out, boot into a working linux partition, make a directory in /media called sda8 (humm - can you boot to an extended partition??) and then mount using mount -t ext3 /dev/sda8 /media/sda8.
