It was more than a year ago when I attempted to install a Windows 2000
system directly connected to the internet. In fact, before the system was
fully updated with security patches it had been compromised. I didn't time
it, but it certainly was less than 30 minutes.
Some years ago Thom Paine had a similar experience with Windows Server
2003 SBS. He installed it, left it overnight. When he returned, he was
told it had been infected and was being a pest.
He reinstalled, and before he'd got updates downloaded & applied it was
infected again.
