Im using Fedora 8.

You didn't specify which version of Fedora you are running.

Assuming for minute that Applications -> Add Remove Software runs pirut,
(as it does for my FC6 system) then you need to look at /etc/yum.conf

Look at the value for cachedir= and keepcache=  if keepcache=0, then the
downloaded .RPMs are deleted after they are installed.  If it is "1",
then they are stored in the cachedir.  Look around and you'll see how it
is laid out.

Disclaimer:  I run yum by hand and edit my /etc/yum.conf file to suit my
needs.
