How can I figure out how to resolve this? Make sure that you open your firewall to ports 5900-59xx, where xx is 05-99 depending on your port usage. Your firewall may be blocking access to this port. I use firestarter as the easiest way to setup and define ports since iptables was a bit of a mystery to me. But if you understand iptables then make sure that you open the above ports and it is up to you to allow or limit public access. I have my Vnc ports via firestarter limited to my local LANs.
