The locate command can find files for you on your computer, that your computer has indexed already. e.g. [tim@suspishus Desktop]$ locate xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf /usr/share/man/man5/xorg.conf.5.gz If it hasn't indexed it yet, then using the updatedb command will start it off creating the index.
