Thankfully, I don't need the Sun Java to run my applications.

Is that what BOINC is using?

I'm sure that it doesn't use Java (was running boinc before I installed Java). In my search, I noticed several Java references.

My limited linux knowledge leads me to think that Java uses the same libraries.
