I just updated my FC6 server to F8 (replaced not upgraded) and installed the nvidia-x11-drv-96xx driver from Freshrpms which has always worked before and is working right now on my desktop. Both systems are running the 64bit version of Fedora.

Same problem with nvidia-x11-drv-96xx-1.0.9639-1.i386.rpm on my 32bit system (antique GeForce2 MX/MX 400 card). I fetched the latest legacy driver from nvidia.org (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.01-pkg1.run.bin) which built and runs without any glitches.

I was going to do just that as a last resort. I really like the package from freshrpms because it uses dkms so it auto rebuilds the driver with kernel updates instead of hoping another repo has the driver ready the same time the kernel releases.

Thanks,
Richard
