problems using pilot-link with libusb and Palm TX on F8

I am trying to use pilot-link with libusb to back up my Palm TX on
a Fedora 8 box. I had this working with FC6 (but with a version of
pilot-link that I had compiled myself), and it was indeed much faster
than using the visor module.

On F8 I'm trying to do it with the pilot-link rpm. As per the
instructions, I've blacklisted the visor module, and it doesn't
get loaded when I plug in my TX. I've put the udev rules from
/usr/share/pilot-link/udev/60-libpisock.rules into /etc/udev/udev.d
(replacing the dialup group with uucp). The rules seem to get loaded
without any problems; /var/log/messages has "udevd[494]: parse_file:
reading '/etc/udev/rules.d/60-libpisock.rules' as rules file" (I set udev
logging to "debug"). And the system seems to recognize the TX when I plug
in the usb cable, since I see the following show up
in /proc/bus/usb/devices:

T: Bus=01 Lev=02 Prnt=02 Port=03 Cnt=02 Dev#= 14 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=16 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0830 ProdID=0061 Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=Palm, Inc.
S: Product=Palm Handheld
S: SerialNumber=PN70UBP6V01V
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr=500mA
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 4 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=(none)
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=86(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=07(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

When I start pilot-xfer with the port as usb: (e.g., "pilot-xfer -p usb:
-s mydir"), I do see "Listening for incoming connection on usb:..." as I
should. But nothing happens when I press the sync button and eventually the
TX times out.

I can post all the udevd messages related to the TX if that would be
useful, but I thought I'd ask first if anyone has this working on F8.

Thanks,

  George
