They are just being moved/backed-up to ~/.Trash, so you don't loose them
immediately. 

No idea what KDE does.

I'd say, check permissions on files in ~/.Trash

May-be you have files laying around with broken ownership/permissions in
~/Trash or have screwed up directory permissions on ~/ ($HOME)?
