There are some things that continue from version to version and if
you have not been told the "fix" it stops you dead in your tracks. An
example:
I like to be able to click on a URL in a message and have Firefox
come up with that URL on it. I had it in FC6 and Got it again in F7 but
then lost it. I asked on this list for help and heard nothing. So I
decided the problem is, if you use a yum installed Thunderbird and
Firefox it will not work. I tried it both on F7 and F8. It then seemed
the fix is to not use the yum installed Firefox.
So this morning I went to Mozilla and d/l the latest Firefox which
comes in a tar file but it doesn't need to be compiled. On F7 this fixed
the problem :-)
I can again click on a URL and Firefox comes up with that URL displayed.
So now I am on F8 and tried it but Firefox didn't come up. Then I
recalled you have to load a file that should be in EVERY Linux package.
The file is:
compat-libstdc++-33.i386 0:3.2.3-62
I installed that and now the URL thing works fine on F8.
My conclusion is that the yum installed Firefox is not complete. It
doesn't include what is needed to let the URL thing work. So if you want
the convinence I again have, you need to fix FC6, F7 , and F8 with the
above fix to libstdc++ and install a d/l Firefox and you will now have
it. :-)
