I was able to add : floppy.allowed_drive_mask=0 clocksource=acpi_pm to the boot command line which allowed the process to continue. I played around with the bios setup to remove the floppy disc option but that did not make a difference. The laptop I have does not have a floppy drive, but the bios was set to use the floppy to boot. I have finally had success in getting F8 installed, and things look great.
