However (and this is my issue) if your MUA (in my case mutt) uses sendmail as its MTA (i.e. mutt runs sendmail to actually send its mail, it doesn't connect direct to port 25) then *that* sendmail appends its idea of the local hostname to the mail addressee. By default on my system that means that mail sent from mutt to 'chris' actually gets sent to 'chris@xxxxxxxxx' which doesn#t work too well!
