If yum has not removed the last working kernel on your system reboot.
At the grub boot screen press the space bar. That should bring up a
menu showing your installed kernels (default limit is set at 2).
Select the lowest version kernel and press enter.

Several things you can do in the future:

1. Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and remove the "#" in front of
"hiddenmenu" so that you get a menu from which you can select a kernel
or other OS to boot.

2. Edit /etc/yum.conf and exclude the kernel from getting updated.
(Note: Do a "man yum.conf" first.)

3. For F6-F7 edit /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/installonlyn.conf and change
the number of kernels to keep. (My own preference is to set this value
to 0. That way, I determine which kernels I want to keep and the
one(s) to remove.)

For F8 edit /etc/yum.conf and modify the value for installonly_limit.
