If it helps, I did check to see that the firmware was installed in /lib/firmware in the non-working situation. The two .ucode files were definitely there. I remember that because I went searching to find them and compare them to what was available on Intel's site and they matched. I didn't check the documentation files though, and I also didn't check the contents of the firmware RPM file. But I'm pretty sure they were the same. Perhaps someone who installed from DVD can confirm that. I can also tell you that, in the non-working situation, dmesg output was saying that the drivers thought the card's hardware switch was off (meaning that the card was physically turned off). In reality the card was definitely turned on. That might provide some additional clues.
