Did you try CTRL-ALT-PLUS or CTRL-ALT-MINUS a few times to cycle through resolutions? If you just need the card working (but not well) to get something downloaded/installed (say the nVidia driver), change the driver in xorg.conf to "vesa" instead of "nv". I have a GeForce 6800 (Dell OEM) that runs quite well on F7 with the nVidia driver. I know some are opposed to a closed-source driver, but it works much better than the nv driver. YMMV, etc...
