I almost agree with you. On point 3 you are implicitly assuming that the
users card is new enough to be support by the latest driver release. Not
all are. Livna also support various older versions for these cards, and
so if you need to use these you will need a different kmod.

But if you have a fix for the new cards at least your that much further
along. And we have no data on how well old hardware will work with new
drivers.
