No. Chain-loading of boot loaders is a pretty ordinary multi-boot scenario. You let OS #1 maintain the MBR. And any additional OS maintains its own bootloader in the first sector of its own boot partition. No shared /boot for all installations. Why Karl uses "makeactive" and "rootnoverify" instead of "root" is a mystery though.
