I share your concerns about security. I am busy downloading Linux Live Security and Forensics CDs (almost a hobby to me these days - what a LOT to learn!!!), learning to use virus scanners (the state of the art is VERY important here), root kit hunters, SElinux and other policy based tools, sniffers (network security "cameras"), and also learning to "pen test".
