Do you have SELinux enabled? Although I do not get a never-ending
splash screen, it does disappear and writer never starts up. If
SELinux is enabled, this may solve your problem (as root)

chcon -t
textrel_shlib_t /opt/openoffice.org2.3/program/libvclplug_gen680li.so.1.1

Mind the line wrapping, you'll want to put that all on one line. If
you are not sure if you have SELinux enabled, please do not run
this command. It won't hurt, but don't go get excited running
commands all over the place.
