Okay, so, I know it's often annoying, but on the other hand, I sometimes like a simple audio alert when some shell command is done, via echo -e '\a'. On the local system, I can substitute some command-line audio player and a wav file, but if the system I'm working on is remote (and it usually is), that's no good. It seems like if I'm on a system without a pcspkr device, there's no way to get a beep at all (?!), and if I am on one, there's no way to make it use the sound card to play something less jarring. Am I missing something here?
