Also, I found this command to give information about the volume:

arrakis ~ # 
arrakis ~ # ls -l /dev/mapper/* 
brw------- 1 root root 253,  0 Oct  7 00:39 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-
LogVol00
brw------- 1 root root 253,  1 Oct  7 00:39 /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-
LogVol01
crw-rw---- 1 root root  10, 61 Oct  6 22:35 /dev/mapper/control
arrakis ~ # 
arrakis ~ # date
Sun Oct  7 01:28:54 PDT 2007
arrakis ~ # 


However, I'm still searching for an explanation of how to mount the 
volume, unfortunately.
