The solution in Bugzilla report works. I am now up and running on

Try adding this to the new kernel's options in /etc/grub.conf after
updating and
before rebooting:
pci=nomsi,nommconf
So it should look something like
kernel <kernel-name> ro root=LABEL=/ pci=nomsi,nommconf <other options>
And the old kernel is still there after updating, you can press a key on the
very first boot screen and choose the old kernel.

try appending 'edd=skipmbr' to the kernel command line and see if that
helps. Please report success/failure to the list or in a bugzilla,
and post the bugzilla to the list.
