So the problem is that the module doesn't get loaded at boot time.

Now that I've modprobed my wireless driver knetworkmanager shows the wireless network.

Did you post earlier what's in your /etc/modprobe.conf?

alias wlan0 bcm43xx-mac80211
alias scsi_hostadapter sata_nv
alias scsi_hostadapter1 pata_amd
