What you experience sounds like hardware problems under load/heat. Yum is quite CPU intensive, which is a stress-test for your machine.
Sometimes yum is too CPU intensive causing 90% plus of a load for long durations. It causes this aging laptop to shut down for BIOS thermal protection if not constantly monitoring and adjusting the max CPU frequency. It was a transitional update to yum which railed and shut down the box. The current version is less of a stress test on the machine, fortunately.
Yes, yum is a stress test for hardware under heavy load. Jim -- Linux - It is now safe to turn on your computer. -- From a Slashdot.org post -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
