I would expect Ubuntu to be more popular as it is targetted differently. If you run Fedora you need to expect some pain. However when I changed over from Redhat 6, I found I was building fewer applications from source. So in my case, I have been reducing pain by running Fedora. Case in point. I still run a server on FC5 because the kernels near FC5's end of life were broken. I run another machine with F7 that still has the problem and tends to lock up on me at inconvenient times every week or so, with what I think is probably the same problem. There are open bug reposrts on what appear to be this issue in both Redhat's and the Kernel's bug tracking systems and have been there for about a year now.
