Mikkel suggested: "Try using ipp://saturn:631/<printer name>."

Ok. I may be getting somewhere. From saturn where the printer is, I
brought up the cups interface and looked at the printer. From the server,
it tells me that the URI is
beh:/1/10/60/parallel:/dev/lp0

[root@saturn archive]# lpstat -t
scheduler is running
system default destination: hp-1320
device for hp-1320: beh:/1/10/60/parallel:/dev/lp0
hp-1320 accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer hp-1320 is idle. enabled since Jan 01 00:00
        Sending print file, 24803 bytes...
[root@saturn archive]#

When I look at the URI that is used by pluto to acces the printer on
saturn, I see this:

ipp://saturn/printers/hp-1320

[root@pluto ~]# lpstat -t
scheduler is running
system default destination: hp-1320-saturn
device for hp-1320-saturn: ipp://saturn:631/printers/hp-1320
hp-1320-saturn accepting requests since Wed 05 Sep 2007 12:47:10 PM EDT
printer hp-1320-saturn is idle. enabled since Wed 05 Sep 2007 12:47:10 PM
EDT
[root@pluto ~]#

Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

The problem is that when I print from pluto the job enqueues but then just
sits there.
