I found the following bugzilla (from previous posting to the fedora-list).

I did 'xine --verbose movie.avi' and just basically tracked down the
dependencies that xine needed. I found that by installing the following, xine
is able to play all of my movie that I tried. Kaffeine also works now (since
it just basically depends on xine).
yum install vlc vlc-devel libmad libmad-devel madplay libmp4v2 gsm directfb
I have Livna repository installed, and some of those packages are from Livna
(and they will also get more dependencies).

Exactly. All the other software is dead in the water. VLC is the ONLY
thing that plays mp3 and DVD movies and anything else with no problems.
