Thanks for the hint, but 'device' is an unknown command in grub 0.97. It is also not listed under help. Using 'root' returns
(hd0,1): Filesystem is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Submitting 'setup (hd0) claims all is fine and dandy, but a reboot gets me back to where I started. Also, 'quit' is an unknown command as well.

I guess my luck ran out. Do I really have to cede the field to XP? I am in no way badmouthing Linux or Fedora, but this isn't any freaky hardware. SATA FakeRAIDs are out in the field en masse since at least two years. OK, being a bit more constructive here....is there any additional information I could deliver that might get me closer to a fix?
