"got to setupCdrom without a CD device" during install on Dell Inspiron 1420

I get "got to setupCdrom without a CD device" while installing F7 on a
Dell Inspiron 1420. Have seen a few others with similar problems, but
not on the same hardware or with Fedora. Have tried a couple of
suggestions (all-generic-ide and pci=nomsi) but they don't get me
anywhere.

Unsurprisingly, I get the same problem trying to run the rescue CD.

The system came with Ubuntu on it, so I can get some info from it.
Knoppix 5.1.0 and 5.1.1 both boot happily.

I'd be happy to a network install, but the whereas the onboard LAN
gets detected, the network doesn't come up.
