I installed switchdesk.On using it,it told me that KDE was not installed while I had selected the option while installing fedora 7.Using yum I installed the KDE desktop and I am now getting a proper desktop :-)

What you have is TWM, the minimal window manager that comes with
X. It's very nice for lean machines.
"yum install switchdesk-gui" should give you a graphical way to switch
to KDE.
