I've been looking at a couple of applications that require Java (in particular mindterm) and found the Fedora documentation on the subject rather obtuse. As I understand it, there are two possibilities: either install Java that comes with the Fedora "Java Development" group of packages, or else install Sun's Java. (1) How complete is Fedora Java? I have seen warnings for example that it is unsafe to use the Fedora Java plugin for Firefox, and I assume that the same warning would hold true for other Java applications, eg mindterm. (2) Are the two Java installations completely independent? Can one have both installed? What about the environment variable CLASSPATH? (3) The Fedora documentation, eg <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JavaFAQ>, seems to me slightly misleading in not mentioning Sun's Java at all. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail (<80k only): tim /at/ birdsnest.maths.tcd.ie tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
