Seems I'm screwed anyway, wouldn't hurt to try it... I realized I might not need gparted, fdisk might be able to do it. I could try to set /dev/sda[12] to type 17 (hidden HPFS/NTFS) -- I just tried it with the (empty) NTFS partition on /dev/sda3. Question: changing a partition's type shouldn't alter any of its data, should it?
