Do you want to do a bunch of mp3 in a big batch or just a couple but
want flexibility with sample rates and such? If you are doing this
conversion to wav to burn audio CDs, it is worth noting that, with the
right packages installed, many of the burning software packages will
do all that stuff automatically for you after you drag and drop the
mp3s into your track list. However, those codec packages you need are
buried in a third-party repo due to software patent/licensing issues.

audacity is good for one by one conversion of files but for batch
processing you are best to find the right command-line incantation for
mencoder or any number of other command-line utilities.
