Well, sort of... After I do a startx the screen blanks, and in nvidia driver 
case, stays there (all I can do is reset the machine). In nouveau case it 
does the same, but after several seconds X gets killed automatically and I 
end up back in the prompt, so I don't have to reset.

I'll try that with the nv driver, to check. Nvidia driver doesn't start for 
me, so I cannot compare.

I'm still running kernel 2.6.21-1.3228. Being on dial-up makes updating a bit 
hard to do. But I'll mirror the repositories again on Friday when I get to 
the office, bring them home on a couple of dvds, and then I'll start testing 
the drivers again with a newer kernel.
