Hi Dave. I've had a reply from Takashi Iwai on the alsa user list that confirms that the snd-hda-codec is now integrated into snd-hda-intel, for alsa 1.0.14 that the kernel version 2.6.22.1-27.fc7 is using. I don't know if you had to set any options to get snd-hda-intel working initially on FC6, but would you be so kind as to post the contents of your /etc/modprobe.conf that is on your current Fedora 7 install. All the best.
Here's my current modprode.conf alias scsi_hostadapter ata_piix alias usb-controller ehci-hcd alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd alias eth1 e100 options snd cards_limit=8 alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel index=0 alias snd-card-7 snd-usb-audio options snd-usb-audio index=7 This works fine with kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 but doesn't work with kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7. In both cases this is with alsa-lib-1.0.14-0.4.rc3.fc7 (which seems to be the most recent version released to the official Fedora yum repositories).
