I've just upgraded my FC6 Dell Dimension to F7. Everything seems to be
working except the sound. When I try to open the volume control I get
the error message "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices
found"
Running system-config-soundcard shows the card is detected correctly
(it's an onboard Intel 82801G - ICH7 Family) but there are no PCM
devices listed.
In case it help, here's the output from lsmod | grep snd:
snd_hda_intel 243416 0
snd_seq_dummy 7877 0
snd_seq_oss 33473 0
snd_seq_midi_event 11073 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 50609 5

snd_seq_device 11981 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_pcm_oss 43457 0
snd_mixer_oss 19521 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 74949 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 24901 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd 53317 8
snd_hda_intel,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 11681 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 13769 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
I'm no expect, but it looks like the correct module (snd_hda_intel)
has been loaded.
This was working fine yesterday under FC6.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Dave...
It sounds a bit like the kernel problem with the original kernel in the
package. There has been at least one and right now I am yummiming
another kernel in updates. You might wait until you do the big update
thing and see if the sound works with a new kernel.
