You don't want to delete more than you expect to. You can also use tab completion to finish off a filename. For example, "ls abc" and then <tab> will complete the filename "abcdef.ghi" if it is present in the directory. If there is more than one file that starts with "abc" then nothing will happen until you hit <tab> twice; then it will give you a list of all of the files that start with "abc".
