If you need to work on ntfs disks in rescue mode, I'd recommend Knoppix instead. http://www.knoppix.org/ We use it for cleaning up problematic ntfs file systems either with tools in Knoppix or SMB (Windows File Sharing) by turning on Samba in Knoppix and getting the whole hard drive shared out. Which is an excellent way to rescue files.
