Of course I had. I've gone much further than that (getting device info from udevinfo and working through pilot-xfer). If you look at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=158809 you will realize that I've been connecting/debugging/reporting on Palm devices, udev, pilot-link, gpilotd and connections for several years.
