If this is meant to be general advice then it should be pointed out
that NetworkManager does not work with all WiFi devices
(as you will find the NetworkManager team accept).
Please READ the manual again and see if your complaints are valid.
Yes I do use my experiance and the calls are what I used. Others will
use their own. I am not aware of any reason why NetworkManager will not
work with ANY kernel. This is news to me.
Sigh.
I didn't say it does not work with any KERNEL.
I said it does not work with all WiFi DEVICES.
It does not work with classic Orinoco Gold and Silver PCMCIA cards,
and I'm sure with many other similar cards.
The reason is that NM relies on a kind of scanning
which these cards to not support.
I'm sorry, but you do not have sufficient experience or knowledge
to write a general WiFi HOWTO.
By all means write an article on "How I got WiFi to work
with device ABC on machine XYZ".
I am NOT writing a paper like you say is needed. And NOWHERE does my
paper say it will work for every laptop. But it works with perhaps 30
laptop types and that makes it useful to a lot of people. If your using
a real old laptop that has a plug in WiFi device your likely not going
to get that working in Linux.
