Karl,

Firstly, X11 is not controlled from /etc/rc.d/init.d. Please get a clue
before trying to advise people. Next, X11 is not running. Did I mention
anywhere in my post that X11 is actually running? In fact, when that
machine starts up, it starts in runlevel 3.

Next, why would a computer serving web, NFS and IMAP need X11 and gnome?

Any half decent system administrator will remove useless and unused
packages from any server. As Frank mentioned, each additional package is a
potential vulnerability. Plus, it doesn't make any sense to keep software
installed that wont be used...

The crux of this issue is not that I'm using fedora as a server, its that
the dependency issues are utterly crazy. But on the upside, it appears
such craziness is going to be fixed. Fedora is not just a desktop,
although that seems to be the focus in competition with things like
ubuntu.
